When you run a business, whether it is small or large, marketing is one of the most important things to ensure your success.

But it isn’t an area that everyone is a master in, in fact many business owners might worry just how to make sure that they are using marketing the right way for their business.

So with this in mind we have put together our top do’s and don’ts of marketing; a quick guide to the basics that every business should master.

Watch what you say

Whilst the whole point of marketing is to make sure that your customers know just why you are the right choice for them. That said, it is incredibly important to make sure that you sell yourself the right way and avoid jargon filled text that simply tells them that you are awesome.

Instead, tell your customers what exactly makes you the right choice, what unique points do you have to offer them that other businesses don’t?

Even though you will want to make sure your customers know that you are an expert in your field it is important not to baffle them with language that they won’t understand.

Don’t be afraid to be yourself

There is no harm in taking inspiration from your larger competitors, especially if you are new to the market. But what is important is that you are proud of who you are and what you can offer your customers. You never know, by not being afraid to be yourself you may bring something fresh and unique to the market that other companies are overlooking.

Know your target market

You simply cannot effectively market yourself if you don’t know who you want to target. Understanding not only who is your key demographic, but also how best to appeal to them is vital in business marketing.

If you get this wrong and advertise over incorrect channels then you are less likely to see the success that you deserve. So research carefully and then plan your approach.

Be interesting

Content marketing is big business at the moment. Whilst many businesses may think it is simply a case of packing full blogs, articles and website content with keywords to get the clicks; there is actually more to it than that.

You will want to appear informative and knowledgeable, presenting your customers with factual, interesting and readable content that shows you know what you are talking about.

Address issues that may affect them from time to time and let them know that you know the right solution.

Understand the marketing choices

In order to best market your business, you should take the time to understand more about the different avenues you can take to market it. Social Media, email, standard advertising; these are all just some of the ways that you can present your business to your audience and get your brand

known. Before you can do this however, you should take the time to understand why each one is important and just how it can work for you.
